After Pre-university, What Next?

Do you just plan to go to university like every other person? Do you want to leave school and join the unemployed population? Do you want to be employed instead of employing?

By some estimates, universities in Nigeria produce up to 500,000 graduates every year. And about half of these graduates are unable to find jobs. Which half would you rather be in. The employed half I guess? Do you have what it takes?

Can you be the best? Can you stand out? Can you do what the “big ones” did? Do you dare to be different?

Being employed has moved beyond being a university graduate, only the best of the best get employed. Here’s a few tips on being the best, the employed one.

Firstly, the main difference between the rich and the poor, the elite and the others, the leader and the followers, and finally the employed and the unemployed is their “Decision making". Simple decisions you take at this point in your life could define you. Whether you decide to be ahead now by learning skills that you will not be taught in school — this serves as an additional content to your CV, or acquire more knowledge before school — this makes you the best because every class session is now a revision, or interning at a reputable organization — this not only gives hands on experience but would also make your chances of getting the job higher, or be an entrepreneur — this makes you a part of the independent population already, and in case you need a partner, think wisely, or just stay at home, unproductive and wasteful, while waiting for admission. Wise up.

Also, to be a part of the employed, you really have to make the best of your time, as no knowledge is waste, no time too should be spared. Learn something new, get better at something, do something different — I mean something productive. You will be amazed at how good you would have become even before admission, you will be ready, and qualified too, for the market even before you finish your first year. Time waits for nobody.

The best people also are the ones who are always positive, learn from every mistake, get better after every failure , and go again and finally make it.

Life is a series of games. Sometimes you lose, sometimes you win.

Failure doesn’t mean you’re not good, it’s probably an indication that you’ve not discovered yourself. When you fail, try a new pattern, something better, and keep trying till you’re the best at what you do. It’s no hidden fact that even the simplest things around us now were developed in years, with so many fails along the way, but perseverance made it all pay. Stay happy, never give up, keep trying.

Hope you have a nice future. See you at the top.
